Birmingham Seniors Men’s Group Tour of CCC Museum

Birmingham Seniors Men’s Group

Tour of CCC Museum on April 28, 2026

There were about 26 participants from the Birmingham Seniors Men Group, and their guests, that went on a tour of the Chaldean Cultural Center Museum.  The group walked through the five galleries which included, Ancient Mesopotamia, Faith and Church, Village Life, Journey to America, and Chaldeans Today.  In each gallery, they heard about the exhibits of that gallery and their significance to Chaldean history and culture.  For example, in the Ancient Gallery, five kingdoms were noted: Sumerians, Akkadians, Babylonians, Assyrians, & Neo-Babylonians (Chaldean).  The Faith & Church Gallery related the history of how the Chaldeans were converted to Christianity by St. Thomas the Apostle and about the Church of the East.  The Village Gallery described the self-sufficient villages in the Nineveh Plain.  Journey to America was about the early Chaldean pioneers coming to America at the turn of the 20th century and why specifically Detroit.  The Today Gallery spoke about the growth of the community and the diaspora.   After the tour of the Museum, Mary Romaya led the group on a tour of the Shenandoah Country Club, giving its history and describing each of the amenities throughout the facility (i.e. banquet rooms, Mixed Grill, Athletic Department).

After the tours, the participants had a Middle Eastern lunch in the Members’ Dining Room.  There were 5 tables set up for lunch and each table had at least one Chaldean present to continue any further discussion about Chaldeans.
