The Chaldeans
The Chaldean Cultural Center has just published a book entitled, The Chaldeans, that covers the history, language, traditions, and heritage of this ancient civilization over thousands of years. It dwells on who the Chaldeans are from ancient Mesopotamia to today. Great figures such as Hammurabi and Nebuchadnessar are discussed as well as the many contributions that these historic people have made to civilization over the millennia.
The Chaldeans traces how these people were converted to Christianity in the 1st century A.D. and how they managed their lives, held on to their Aramaic language, and kept their culture and religious beliefs even while being a minority group in a largely Islamic society.
It traces the story of the Chaldeans, in more recent times, as to how they came to America at the turn of the 20th century and why many from the villages in northern Iraq settled in Detroit, MI. Chaldeans today whether in the U.S. or as part of the diaspora remain a vibrant, living, productive people contributing to the greater society at large while still maintaining their language, customs, and cherished religious beliefs.
